Network Archive Storage
Configuration > Servers Settings > Call Archiving > Network Archive Storage

Overview

Network based storage devices such as Storage Area Networks (SAN) or Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices can be used for archiving. For a NAS device as long as a local path can be mapped onto server via a UNC path or for a SAN device that a local drive letter can be mapped then this can be used.

USB connected hard drives are not recommended or supported due the performance and the lack or reliability and fault tolerance.

Configuration

The call archiver needs to be able to access the attached storage and to be able to read and write to the location. The CallArchiving Windows service that hosts the process runs in the context of the Local System account on the server. This means that the Local System account needs to be granted read and write permissions to these locations.

For SAN devices the storage is typically shown as a local drive so the archiver should already have permissions on to this. For NAS devices that are typically connected over the IP network then additional configuration may be necessary.

  1. If the server and the NAS device are part of the same Windows Active Directory Domain then the computer account of the server can be granted permissions to a share on this device.
  2. If the server and the NAS are not on the same Domain or the computer account cannot be granted this permission than an alternative set of credentials can be configured to be used. These credentials would then need to be given read/write access to the share.
  3. If the server and the NAS are part of the same Workgroup, then the same Windows Local User Account (same username and password) can be configured on both and this can be used.
